    Old crane for shipping

The Preußen port, founded in 1913, used to serve as a logistics hub for the Preußen 1/2 and Gneisenau mines (in Dortmund Derne) on the Datteln-Hamm Canal. As coal mining moved north, it increasingly lost its economic function.

A testament to earlier industrial history stands on the waterfront promenade - both a watermark and a landmark - and signals from afar the mooring point for leisure captains and hobby boaters in Lünen, the "Mohr crane". The full-portal luffing crane, built by the Mannheim-based machine factory Mohr & Federhoff AG in 1962, with a total weight of 176.5 tons, could lift 16 tons. The lifting height is 14 meters. The outreach ranges from 5.7 meters to 22 meters. With a span of six meters, the crane was equipped for bucket and general cargo operations. A bucket and a hook have been preserved and are located nearby. It stands on a total of 16 wheels on rails, which today serve as the side border of the paved canal promenade. The "Mohr crane" was in use in the Preußenhafen from 1964 to 1996. It loaded coal and building materials for the mine expansion and could serve two cargo ships moored parallel to the harbor pier at the same time. In terms of its size and performance, it was a symbol of the prosperity of the harbor and a key factor in increasing the handling capacity.

When it was shut down in 1996 and moved to its current location, its imposing shape remained as a visible, memorable departure mark on the long strip of the Datteln-Hamm Canal. Even today it signals canal kilometer 14.2 "Preußenhafen" to cargo ships and pleasure boaters. It marks the pier of the "Santa Monika", the yacht charter point and is the visual address for the water hiking rest area in the Preußenhafen.
