Former town hall at Markt 7 in Aardenburg, right in the historic center of the town. It was built in 1950-1952 in traditionalist reconstruction style to plans by architect J.A. Wentink (1904-1992). It was built on the spot where the previous town hall, built in 1864, stood. This town hall was seriously damaged during the Second World War - in 1944 during the Battle of the Scheldt. Instead of restoring the old town hall, the municipality decided to have a new town hall designed.
The building lost its function as town hall after the municipal merger of Aardenburg and Sluis into the municipality of Sluis-Aardenburg in 1995. This municipality merged with the municipality of Oostburg in 2003 to form the current municipality of Sluis. After this it was kept in use as an archive, but the municipality sold it in 2017. The building forms the monumental closure of the northern square wall of the Markt and forms a spatial connection with the former mayor's residence to the west of the town hall and with the music kiosk.
