Here in Zarpen you will find an old brick church from the 13th century (1221). It is one of the oldest buildings in the district and is a listed building. The round friezes on the south wall still show Romanesque round shapes, on the north side, however, already the pointed style features of the Gothic. The windows and arched arches of the vault reveal the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. In almost 8 centuries, the building suffered. Especially the west side of the tower had been damaged by the weather again and again. The brick brick wall, which has been repeatedly bricked up, therefore hardly shows the well-designed structure that can still be recognized on the side walls. For the preservation and repair of the church considerable resources were needed, which the community could not raise alone. It was supported by sponsors, in recent decades mainly by the Cultural Foundation Stormarn, many private individuals and foundations.
