The current church building, a single-nave, plastered brick building, was erected in 1636 after the medieval monastery church of Reinfeld Abbey had been destroyed during the dam break of the men's pond dammed for carp farming. The new, much smaller church was built on the Eichberg to prevent flooding. The financing was taken over by Duke Joachim Ernst (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön), whose small area of authority included the Reinfeld office. The nave has a rectangular floor plan, followed by a choir room with a five-sided apse. On the north side there is a small rectangular extension, which under the reign of the last duke Friedrich Karl (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön) in 1737 as a patron saint for his mother Dorothea Christina, who had her widow's seat in Reinfeld, newly furnished and with the ducal Coat of arms was decorated. Opposite on the south side, a neo-Gothic annex was added to the sacristy in 1893.The interior is hall-like with a continuous wooden beam ceiling. A horseshoe-shaped gallery can be found in the west. The small wooden square tower with a pointed octagonal helmet is located on the east side above the altar; at the west end there is a new clock tower.Since 1940 the church has been named Matthias Claudius, who was born in the Reinfeld pastorate in 1740 as the son of the pastor of the same name.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias-Claudius-Kirche_(Reinfeld)
