The Georgsinsel (occasionally also St. George Island, on the old floor map Georgen Island [1]) is a legendary rocky island in the middle reaches of the river Iller in Kempten (Allgäu) below the Church of the Assumption of the Assumption. The island is registered as a natural monument. [2] [3] Even before the partial demolition of the northern part for the weir of the small hydropower plant Drahtzug during the years 1908 to 1910, the island was painted by the Allgäu artist Joseph Buck.
