The Cares Route, which connects Poncebos in Asturias with Caín in León, is famous for its impressive tunnels and landscapes. This approximately 12-kilometer route crosses the Picos de Europa and follows the course of the Cares River. One of the most notable sections is the tunnel area, where you can find tunnels carved into the rock with side windows offering spectacular views of the gorge. These tunnels were built between 1915 and 1921 to facilitate the transportation of water for hydroelectric power. The current route, open since 1945, allows visitors to enjoy the natural beauty and historic engineering of the region.

Everywhere there are wonderful motifs from the combination of the crystal clear water, the rock formations as well as the tunnels and bridges. The mountain goats along the way are completely trusting and will lick your arm or leg.
