Best Hiking Routes to Penwyllt Quarry Ruins

Tips

  • Abandoned limestone quarry, which operated from c. 1870 to c. 1950 and was the source of subsistence for the nearby hamlet of Penwyllt. The quarry was the reason why there was a train connection (stopped in 1962), shops (now there is no trace of commercial activity left), ... The end of the quarry also meant the end of the village community.
The only group of houses still in use are in Powell Street and house the headquarters of the South Wales Caving Club.

The site is not accessible. Photo opportunities are therefore limited, but if you want to see more, go here: walesonline.co.uk/lifestyle/nostalgia/gallery/decaying-remains-welsh-quarry-abandoned-25827228
