Napoleon passed this place on 27.10.1813 during his retreat.
In the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig from 16 to 19 October 1813, he suffered a heavy defeat. In the hitherto largest single battle in the history of Europe, the French army lost 60,000 to 73,000 men. The Allies lost 54,000 men, including about 16,000 Prussians.
