Donkey - a pillory for Toruń soldiers.
The figure of the donkey refers to the punishments used in old Toruń for minor and more serious offenses, administered here - near the guardhouse - to soldiers of the Toruń armed forces.
From the 15th to the 19th century, a traditional pillory in the form of a pole stood in the place of the present monument of Nicolaus Copernicus.
