Just two years after Garding received city rights in 1590, a Latin school or rector school was founded. The school was privately financed according to the stipulations of the church order. Until 1825, boys and girls learned three foreign languages and science together here. Only then were classes separated until the 20th century.
The school building stood empty until 1985 and was then replaced by today's new building, which largely corresponds to the previous building. There are other very old houses in Fischerstraße, which refers to its former residents by name.
