    Domain of 180 ha on the territory of Assebroek and Sint-Kruis (sub-municipalities of Bruges), Sijsele (Damme) and Oedelem (Beernem). Part of it is a military domain, the castle is given a new destination and the forests are partly a protected nature reserve. "Ryckevelde" also gave its name to the vzw Ryckevelde, movement for European citizenship, which had its office in the castle of the domain from 1956 to 2014.

    Ryckevelde is known as a resting place for dozens of long-eared owls. Among others, sparrowhawk, buzzard, tree falcon, black woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker and green woodpecker breed in Ryckeveldebos. Long-tailed tits and goldcrests are often found in the dense coniferous wood of Douglas firs. Squirrel, deer and fox are also present.

    Rijkevelde certainly refers to the former function of this poor sandy region. On the one hand, rycke could be descended from the Old English ryge or rijge, meaning rye.

    Other sources seek the explanation of rycke in the word rug, which would indicate the elevation of the landscape that this domain forms.
