The pollarded border tree is centrally located in the Paalbos, at the corner of four cadastral parcels and most likely harking back to an old parish border, which has also been partly demarcated in the area with the help of pile stones. Taking into account the current trunk circumference of the border tree, as well as of some other specimens in the Paalbos, an age of 250 years or older is not excluded. After the knot management came to a standstill, the tree took on a special growth form. One branch (possibly torn out) that had not been restored to the original knot with a strong horizontal bend gave rise to the local name 'Den Olifant'.
