Wichtshausen, located furthest west of the city center in the Haseltal, is the oldest district of the city of Suhl. Its first documented mention dates back to the year 799 when "Wigfrideshus" was mentioned in a deed of donation to the Fulda monastery.

Today Wichtshausen has around 500 inhabitants and has been part of the city of Suhl since 1994. The historic center around the Lindenplatz and the church was redesigned as a village square and invites you to linger. In addition to the beautiful half-timbered church, the townscape is characterized by a number of other well-preserved half-timbered houses.

Wichtshausen is located about halfway between the city of Suhl and the theater city of Meiningen and impresses with its beautiful location in the Haseltal and on the Haseltal cycle path.
