It is advisable to walk around the entire complex, the bridges are no longer in the best condition, but you can walk on them. Built in the early 18th century, the mansion was privately owned until 1977. During World War II it served as a military hospital and officers' residence. After the war, the castle was privately occupied before it was acquired by the Association for the Promotion of Educational Initiatives. The building was to be used to found an anthroposophical school. The city of Uelzen took part in the renovation and used the rooms in the central part for cultural purposes. There were other different uses in these years. In 1983, the city of Uelzen acquired the entire castle. Until 2019 it was used by the Museums- und Heimatverein and the Kunstverein Uelzen for exhibitions, concerts, readings and theater performances. The cultural use of the castle is also planned for the future. This requires technical revisions of the baroque palace.
