The lighthouse was put into service in 1857 to make the port of Légué accessible at any time of the night and allow ships to set sail in complete safety. The pier and the balustrade leading to the Pointe-à-l'Aigle lighthouse were built in 1855. In 1925, the fixed white light powered by mineral oil was replaced by a green light powered by electricity. Floating marker buoys were subsequently installed to mark the access channel to the port of Légué (very winding). Cylindrical in shape, its northwest wall (sea side) is painted white while its “land” side leaves the stones exposed.
