The Meadow Well was Thurso's main water supply for centuries. In 1818 it was expanded. The current pump was installed around 1850 and was used until the 1920s to fill water carriers to dampen road dust. The Well was more than a source of water, it was a meeting place for residents to talk and exchange local news.
