The church in Hemfurth was built and designed as a rectangular hall in the Biedermeier style from 1844 to 1847 after the demolition of the old church there. The main portal on the south side and the wooden coffered ceiling are particularly beautiful. The historic organ comes from the workshop of the Korbach organ builder Vogt.
The previous building was first mentioned in a document in 1425. At that time, Hemfurth was a small place of pilgrimage in the Waldeck region. A miraculous image of Saint Catherine was particularly venerated there.
