There are many unusual granite outcrops on Dartmoor. However, the most peculiar of all is the tall column of rock known as Bowerman’s Nose. According to legend, a hunter called Bowerman came across a circle of witches performing black magic and tipped their cauldron over. To take revenge, one of the witches turned into a hare and got the hunting party to chase her to this spot, where they turned Bowerman and his hounds into stone. In reality, many years of weathering created this distinctively human-looking tor.
