In the summer of 1879, Holy Mass was celebrated for the first time in the popular health resort of Bad Elster at the request of many Catholic guests who found the route to the neighboring Bohemian and Bavarian churches too inconvenient. From then on, Catholic services were held regularly every year during the bathing season, first in a local schoolroom and then on the bathing gardener's property.

As the number of believers increased, the foundation stone of St. Elisabeth Church was laid in the spring of 1912. At Pentecost 1913, Bishop Dr. Aloys Schäfer the newly built St. Elisabeth Church. At that time, 183 Catholics lived in the town.

The parish of St. Elisabeth in Bad Elster is now part of the Herz Jesu Plauen parish, which, together with the local parishes of Adorf, Markneukirchen, Mühltroff, Oelsnitz and Weischlitz, includes a total of 2,782 Catholics.

St. Elisabeth Church is located in Paul Schindel Park above the stadium. The Catholic Church was founded in 1912/13.

Due to the increasing number of Catholic guests, a Catholic church was built in the actually Evangelical Lutheran area and consecrated to St. Elisabeth at Pentecost in 1913.

Architecture that is pleasantly embedded in the spa park. Very well-kept park area with plenty of benches.
