Tribute statue to Hollywood star Ava Gardner.

In the small square of Ava Gardner and in front of a beautiful viewpoint in the Vila Vella de Tossa del Mar we find this statue dedicated to the actress Ava Gardner. This is a tribute from the town of Tossa del Mar to the participation of the actress in the filming of "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman".

The film shot in 1950 and directed by Albert Lewin also starred James Mason and the Catalan bullfighter Mario Cabré with whom Ava had a torrid romance while she was already with Frank Sinatra.

This filming served to publicize Tossa de Mar and its surroundings, so in 1998 the artist Cio Abellí created this statue in memory of this filming.

It is surprising how many people stop to take a photo with the statue where you have to wait in line even to take a selfie with it.

Beautiful image for an equally beautiful place. Nearby, at the Pont de Canyet, there is also a statue of her, which is really worth looking up.

Tossa de Mar Castle is the name given to the old walled enclosure of the town of Tossa de Mar, in the province of Girona. It is one of the few examples of a fortified medieval town that is still preserved on the Catalan coast, and was declared a National Historical and Artistic Monument in 1931¹².

Its history goes back to Roman times, when the place was called Turista Turris³. However, it was during the Middle Ages when its name changed to Tursa and finally, to Tossa. The castle was built in 1387 by Abbot Ramon Dezcatlar, under the jurisdiction of King Alfonso the Cast⁴. Its objective was to defend itself against pirate attacks, which were frequent until the 18th century. It also had to withstand the siege of the French troops during the War of Independence, in the 19th century⁴.

The castle has a perimeter of about 300 meters, with seven towers with a circular plan and a cylindrical body. Three of them stand out for their height and for their finish with corsairs, which are stepped corbels that support small round-pointed arches. The towers are called des Codolar or de l'Homenatge, ses Hores or del Rellotge and de Joanàs
