In 1987, Sahms was named the most beautiful village
in the Duchy of Lauenburg district in the "Our Village Should Become More Beautiful" competition. This success is documented by a stone engraved with the words "Most Beautiful Village - 1987."
In 2011, the municipality inaugurated its new coat of arms and its corresponding flag. The coat of arms depicts a frog, a stream, and a church key, representingthe old Sahms place name, Sabenize, which loosely translates as "Frog Stream."
The church key symbolizes the presence of a chapel in Sahms since 1319 and a church from the mid-15th century. Furthermore, the Grabau artist Jonas Nowak created a frog sculpture from a 300-year-old Sahms oak trunk. This was placed beside the Steinau (Frog Stream).sahms.de/unser-dorf
