In the spring of 1927, the saloon steamer "Ludwig Fessler" was put into service. The paddle steamer was built by the Regensburg shipyard Theodor Hitzler. The steam boiler and the engine came from J. A. Maffei in Munich.

The ship was assembled in Prien am Chiemsee from the spring of 1926. It was a turbulent hustle and bustle: components were constantly being delivered, hammering and riveting, carpentry and painting were carried out. Everyone involved was eagerly awaiting the completion of the 53 m long and 11.60 m wide ship.

With its elegant appearance, tasteful saloon and unique ambience, the steamer quickly developed into a popular excursion ship. During the bitter years of the war, the paddle steamer "Ludwig Fessler" stood idle because the crew was at the front and coal was in short supply. It was not until 1949 that the paddle steamer was used again for the now constantly growing number of passengers.

The conversion in 1972/73 put an end to the magic of coal. At that time, the steam engine was replaced by a modern diesel engine. Instead of a 7-man crew, only 3 men were now required. The romance of the paddle steamer has been preserved even after the conversion.

Even today, the paddle steamer is a real "eye-catcher" and a trip on it is a special experience.
