The Elbe crossing 2 is a 380 kV three-phase overhead line crossing of the Elbe that was built between 1976 and 1978 and went into operation in 1978. Two support masts (designed as barrel masts) 227 m high, one on the island of Lühesand and one on the Schleswig-Holstein mainland near Hetlingen. These support masts are considered to be the highest high-voltage pylons in Europe.
