During the First World War, the crossroads called Monumenti became a nerve center of the Austro-Hungarian logistics system, connecting three important and imposing military roads that begin/end here: the Erzherzog Eugen Straße, which descends from Monte Portule; the Kaiser Karl Straße, which leads to the foot of Ortigara (the front line), passing through the Campo Gallina base; the Zoviellostraße, which descends from Val Galamarara, bypassing the Cima dell'Arsenale.

The site also hosted a cableway for supplies from the valley and a small field cemetery.
