The Seekirche was begun before 784, probably initially as a small, wooden basilica with visible ceiling beams. The church tower was completed in 1403, destroyed by lightning in 1655 and rebuilt in Augsburg in the style of Elias Holl. The nave was enlarged in 1728 . Inscriptions inside: Leopold Fugger's epitaph above the sacristy door; various warrior commemorative plaques.
Stone plaques on three pillars commemorate the "Seefrörnen", the complete freezing of Lake Constance in 1573, 1830 and 1963.

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of Saint George, to whom the "Seekirche" was dedicated, but the veneration of his person goes back to early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century.
On the other hand, the legend of Saint George slaying the dragon is well known and widespread. He is usually depicted – in paintings or as a statue – as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback.
The memorial day of the very popular George - he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom - in the calendar of saints is on April 23rd.
