The church is a successor to the former Cistercian monastery church from the early 17th century. The monastery was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. Looks very idyllic from the outside, but unfortunately we couldn't visit it because the doors were locked.

In 1843 the building was built as a teacher's apartment and in 1950 it became the property of the City of Kelbra. You pass the house if you want to visit the St. Georgii Church
