Salt marshes, also known regionally as Heller, Inge or Groden, are stands of herbaceous plants (salt plant vegetation) that are periodically or irregularly flooded by the sea. They form the natural transition and the biological boundary between land and sea on tidal alluvial soft substrate soils (alluvial soils). According to German mapping instructions, these are assigned to the semi-terrestrial soil type of raw marsh.
