Old Harbor of Workum

As the name suggests, the Fietselfstedentour is a tour and not a race. It is precisely this fact that makes the whole thing so interesting. A maximum of 15,000 cyclists ride this tour through the 11 cities in Friesland (NL) once a year on Whit Monday. The whole thing is basically like a folk festival, because every cyclist is celebrated in every place and there is music, food and drinks everywhere. But beware, you have to register online in December of the previous year and if you have not already successfully completed the tour 5 times, you will be entered into a lottery pot and you have to hope that you will get a starting place. You will then receive an email at the beginning of January. The stamp card usually comes in the mail after Easter. Workum is one of the Eleven Cities and it shows. Beautiful idyllic places, including the old port. Nice to literally stand still for a moment.
