When the canal was built in the late 60s to the late 70s, there were numerous protests (nature is being destroyed, too much habitat would be destroyed, too many animals would lose "their home")
The opposite has happened - there are a huge number of fish in the canal, various insects are swarming around the edges, even the beaver has settled again in Baiersdorf (although not on the canal, but a little further on at the Baiersdorf quarry lake).
