Immediately outside the Jakob Gate there is a slender Gothic column at the beginning of Prebrunnallee. The people call it the “Plague Column,” although it cannot be associated with this terrible scourge of humanity from times past. A pious citizen of Regensburg named Ruger Krugl had the column built in 1459. The reason for this is unknown, but a betrothal can be assumed. (Source: Regensburg.de)
