The refuge was opened in 2014 by members of the West Harz ski club Lamspringe e.v. erected, is openly accessible and very comfortably furnished for a refuge. The name "Schutzhütte Bockskrug" is derived from the name of the former inn, which stood on this spot, the former border between Hildesheim and Braunschweig, until 1903 and was not rebuilt after a fire. A car park with access to the sculpture path is also in the immediate vicinity.
