Fruit and vegetable growing has experienced a real boom in Iceland in recent years. Many farmers are taking advantage of the geothermal energy and growing food that would otherwise never grow on the island on the rocky lava soil and in the rather cool temperatures. Icelanders have been heating their greenhouses with geothermal heat inexpensively and climate-neutrally since 1924. More than 2/3 of the vegetables consumed in Iceland now come from modern and sometimes futuristic glass greenhouses. This is also the case with the Ármann family. Her farm is located on the outskirts of Reykholt in southern Iceland. Tomatoes and cucumbers are grown under glass here on a total of approx. 5,000 square meters. Those who like to eat tomatoes will believe they have arrived in paradise. In the Ármann family's restaurant, cheesecake with green tomato topping, tomato ice cream, tomato schnapps, tomato soup and tomato jam are on the menu.
