At a height of 2.25 meters, the statue "The Virgin of the Magnificat" sits on a Louis XIV style base two meters high. It is made of bronze, weighs approximately one ton and was inaugurated in 1930. On the Place du Magnificat in Tignée, one can only be surprised to discover this statue with a monumental character, 2.25 meters high and weighing about a ton. It sits on a Louis XIV style plinth two meters high, it was cast by the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles.

Two dates appear in relief on the front face: 1706 (probable date of the sculpture by the school of Del Cour) and 1930 (date of the inauguration of the statue). It represents the Virgin known as "of the Magnificat" (to the glory of the Virgin Mary) and is similar to the statue which dominates the fountain in Vinâve d'Ile à Liège.

But how did this grandiose idea germinate to create such a monument?

In the garden of the presbytery, the parish priest discovered one day a small terracotta statue placed on a rickety brick and in very poor condition. The severed head lay without a neck on the shoulders. Also, the right hand was missing. The whitish coating that covered it had been soiled by the weather.

After expertise and restoration, this 52 centimeter high statuette was attributed to the school of the Liège sculptor Jean Del Cour (1631-1707). It would come from the primitive chapel of Tignée located in the center of the current cemetery.

In 1930, all of Belgium was preparing to celebrate the centenary of independence in a grand fashion, and party committees were forming everywhere. The village priest, Monsieur Mélon, had the idea of placing a bronze statue of the Virgin in the center of the village, between the lime trees.
