The Old Linden Tree is recognized as a remarkable tree in Wallonia. It already appeared on maps from 1776 under the name of “Haut-Tilleul”.

      History

The Old Linden Tree already appears on the Cabinet Map of the Austrian Netherlands drawn up on the initiative of Count de Ferraris in 1771 under the name of "Haut-Tilleul".

As Olne depended at that time on the United Provinces (current Netherlands), only a few paths and enclaves are included on the "Dutch Enclave" map

In particular: the Haut-Tilleul, the castle of Saint Hadelin, the castle of Froidbermont (Froide Biemont), the enclave of Stavelot (Stavelo): Fief and Mont Saint Hadelin (Fiemont St Hadelin), the Liège enclave Froidheid (Froide Haye) where the Catholic priest Delva took refuge and the enclave of the Moulin du Banc de Soiron

The Old Linden was also the tree of justice of St Hadelin

      Remarks

A large branch (fork) of the large lime tree was torn out in 2013 and was placed in front of the sports hall. The artist Eric Hagelstein made a sculpture dedicated to "Olne, History of the Future" to symbolize the link between the past and the future.

The interior of the lime tree is almost hollow and shows traces of burning (lightning?, games?).

Place called "Le Tilleul", informed as such on the ground, with a bench right next to this remarkable tree.
