    Hiking

Valley glacier from the crater of Eyjafjallajökull. Calves in Lake Lónið, which is more than 40 m deep and surrounded by high moraines. The glacial river Jökulsá flows out of the lake into the Markarfljót. A stratovolcano that has erupted twice in historical times (1612 and 1821/22) slumbers under the ice of the approximately 100 km2 large Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

    Hiking

We hiked the route in early April. The entire route led over snowfields. We couldn't continue due to meltwater, so we found this great little hike.
