On December 7, 1989, on a foggy, gray autumn day, this square was designed by the Rommersheim Farmers' Association. The occasion was the fortieth anniversary of the association. The second land consolidation had just been completed and the plots were redistributed. This small remaining area was made for the location of the stone cross, the boundary stones and four trees for four decades of Rommersheim Farmers' Association. The stone cross is probably the oldest stone testimony of Rommersheim (until 1931 Eichloch). It is described in detail in the Alzeyer Geschichtsblatt (issue 22/1988) as particularly noteworthy. The final sentence: "We hope that the Rommersheim stone cross [...] will receive the attention it deserves thanks to its remarkable composition and decoration! The original location was not far from where it now stands again. Supposedly it should commemorate the death of a rider/knight.
