Another example of how a former, gigantic post-industrial building can be turned into a modern, multifunctional sports and cultural complex is Trojhalí Karolina. The area of huge halls full of iron and masonry used to serve as the back-up facilities for the Karolina Mine and the local coking plant. Nowadays, you can play badminton, indoor football and go to a concert, which in a hall from the mid-19th century is a great experience with an unusual atmosphere.

Trojhalí managed to be saved, today it creates a specific color of Ostrava, but the old Karolina coking plant was demolished in the late 1980s. Today, the modern Forum Nová Karolina shopping center is located in its place. This complex connects the center of Ostrava with the industrial Vítkovice Lower Area.
