Crude steel production was stopped, and the last tapping took place on September 27, 1998. The liquid pig iron for further processing was then obtained from the New Ironworks for a while.

In 2002, the Dul Hlubina coal mine, the coking plant and the blast furnaces were declared a national cultural monument.

Up to 1,200 tons of pig iron were produced daily in blast furnace No. 1. Today visitors follow in the footsteps of this iron.

The unique, over twenty meter long superstructure of blast furnace No. 1 rises to a height of almost 80 meters. An outer bridge, which connects the individual height levels, rotates around a glass cylinder that is suspended from the original structure of the blast furnace. The massive core of the superstructure is made of steel and there is an elevator, a spiral staircase and facilities for visitors. The roof terrace, equipped with binoculars, offers an extraordinary view of Vítkovice, Ostrava itself, but also of the distant surroundings with the fascinating horizon of the Beskydy Mountains.

There is a cafe and restaurant at the top of the tower. Below is the visitor information center and ticket office. From above you have a wonderful view over the Witkowitz steel works and the whole city.

Bolt Tower is the highest geographical point in Ostrava, visitors can enjoy the view from a height of 78 metres. It grew on the blast furnace no. 1 on the former mining site in Dolní Vítkovice. The shape of the tower is reminiscent of the fire that burned here during the productive period of the site. Now, in addition to the view, it also offers multifunctional rooms and an excellent café. The signature on the wall commemorates the person who christened the building. In 2015, Jamaican record holder, world champion and Olympic champion Usain Bolt visited Ostrava several times during the local Zlatá tretra competition.
