Thirty meters tall, slender and furnished with typical architectural elements of its era: the white-and-brown water tower towers on Cordesallee. The avenue was named after Johann Wilhelm Cordes, who had designed the tower built in 1898 as the site manager and later director of the cemetery grounds. For more than twenty years, the tower served as a water reservoir until the cemetery was connected to the municipal water network.
After years of decay in 1990, a first renovation of the dilapidated water tower, damage in the wall plaster, the base and the upper framework made the repeated repair necessary. It was particularly difficult to determine the original colors for the new paint, which ultimately succeeded. This is how the tower presents itself today, as in the days of Johann Wilhelm Cordes.
