The Graz Castle is a significant historical building in the heart of the city and was once the residence of the Habsburgs in Graz. It was expanded from the 15th century onwards under Emperor Frederick III and later rulers and served as the seat of the provincial lords. Particularly famous is the Double Spiral Staircase, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. Today, Graz Castle houses parts of the Styrian state administration and, with its historical rooms and buildings, is a reminder of the city's eventful history.
