The mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II next to the Graz Cathedral is a monumental sacral and representational building from the 17th century, which was connected from two different buildings. The complex, begun in 1614 and completed after decades of construction interruption in 1714, consists of the St. Catherine's Church and the adjoining funerary chapel for Emperor Ferdinand II and his family. Together they form one of the most significant architectural monuments of Austria from Mannerism, the transitional period from the Renaissance to the Baroque.

An imperial resting place located right next to the Graz Cathedral.
An imperial resting place right next to Graz Cathedral. Turquoise roof domes stand out above the mausoleum against the bright blue sky and, together with the cathedral and St. Catherine's Church, form a magnificent cityscape. You immediately feel like you have been transported to the south, as the ensemble enchants the visitor with an almost Florentine flair. Emperor Ferdinand II had his court painter Giovanni Pietro de Pomis plan the impressive tomb here in Graz [graztourismus.at].
