The town stands on the slopes of the mountainous of Monte Inici and gives its name to the gulf of the same name overlooking the castle, bordered to the east by Capo Rama and to the west by Capo San Vito. It bases its economy on tourism and, less than in the past, on viticulture and fishing. Today it is one of the most renowned seaside resorts in Sicily and one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Italy. The Scopello stacks, the Guidaloca bay, the Terme Segestane and the easternmost part of the Zingaro nature reserve fall within its territory.
Of particular interest are the traditional celebrations in honor of the Patron Saint which take place annually from 19 to 21 August and the Historical Re-enactment of Nostra Principalissima Patrona which was celebrated every two years and tells of the attack on the port by the English, thwarted, according to legend , from the arrival of the Madonna del Soccorso.
