The south lake is about 64 ha and has a max. Depth of 3.6 m. It owes its origin of the last ice age and gave the place Sörup its name - Sødorp - the village at the lake -. Sörup is first mentioned in documents in 1338. On the NW side of the lake there is a footpath that goes to the end of the lake (that's the name of the collection of 4-6 houses actually). From here you have a very nice view of the lake. If you want to completely circle the lake back to Sörup, you can only do this on the bike path along Satruper Straße. There is no direct hiking trail down by the lake. On the northeastern shore of the lake is the seaside resort. As early as 1927, there were 2 swimming pools here, separated for boys and girls, who had to be a good distance apart. Unfortunately, the facilities such as walkways and changing rooms disintegrated over time and in the barren years after the war, the remains were then used as firewood. It was not until 1951, as already in 1927, on the initiative of TSV Sörup again a bathing facility built. Today we find here a well-equipped bathing area with kiosk, sanitary facilities, jetty systems, teaching swimming pool and children's playground. During the holiday season, the DLRG provides the necessary security. A small RV park in the immediate vicinity completes the leisure activities. Also popular is the Johannifeuer, which is on the occasion of the Johannitag (June 24) with a small folk festival with games, fun, cultural events and a big fireworks in the evening is fanned. Even the friends of fishing are not forgotten. There are several fishing spots on the lake, fishing permits can be purchased at the team petrol station in Sörup. Pikes and eels from the South Seas are also on the menu in the small restaurant "Sörupmöhl" (https: //sörupmöhl.de/) in Sörup.
