The Schöpfebach is a stream whose headwaters are on the Western Eggberg and which flows into the Rhine near Bad Säckingen. The stream used to flow into the northern arm of the Rhine, which was filled in in 1830. Therefore, the Schöpfebach - which is also often called the commercial canal from the mountain lake - has an artificial and largely underground course in the city area. In the 1990s, parts of the Schöpfebach began to be renatured.
