In the place of today's hotel "Zehntkeller", there was once the "Mönchshove", mentioned as early as 1486, of the Augustinian monastery of Birklingen, not far from Iphofen. After the monastery was destroyed in the Peasants' War, the homeless convent took refuge here. The tithe wine for the prince-bishop was stored in the spacious cellars. Hence the term "Zehntkeller", which is still used today.
