The stretch of coast of Calafuria is characterized by the fusion of two different environments also in colour: high up, on the hills leading towards the Castellaccio, the green of the Mediterranean maquis of the Calafuria Nature Reserve dominates unchallenged, free from marked anthropization; below, beyond the ex-Aurelia, the intense blue of the sea dominates, in which, on clear days, you can see in the distance the islands of Gorgona, Capraia, sometimes even Corsica, and the island of Elba with Piombino promontory

Immediately before the Calafuria bridge is the homonymous tower built in the Medici era for the purpose of sighting Barbary raids. Now under restoration and cannot be visited

In the same area, up to the Calignaia bridge, there are frequent sandstone cliffs in which quadrangular spaces of various sizes were cut out in ancient times (Etruscan and Roman), probably used as stone quarries, which the sea filled in, making to become the larger pools of real swimming pools (perhaps the locality is precisely the one that the Tabula Peutingeriana reports as "ad piscinas"); here, thanks to the low level and tepid temperature of the water, it is common to see children bathing in the good season.

Cliffs overlooking the water, immediately deep. View of Gorgona, Capraia, Elba (on cooler and clearer days, you can also see the north of Corsica). Gorgeous sunsets. Intensely colored sea, beautiful in every season, especially when there is a storm due to the strong south-west wind or mistral wind.

Along the way you can park in a parking lot (for a fee during the summer) on the mountain side south of the bridge, or in the spaces provided on the sea side.
