From the fish pond to the biotope
The Wildecker Teiche are located between Hermannsburg and Eschede, in the middle of the Südheide Nature Park. Created around 1900, the ponds were another source of income for Gut Wildeck for a long time. They were expanded in 1930 and used as breeding ponds for carp.
Since 1951, the breeding farm and the trade associated with it has no longer been of economic importance.
Today you can find a legally protected biotope at the Wildecker Teiche in the middle of the largest contiguous forest area in Lower Saxony. The lack of larger settlements, industrial plants and roads as well as intensively used agricultural areas in the surrounding area means that the air here is largely free of pollutants. And the creatures here can also develop freely.
