The Dettelbach (also Dettel, Brücker Bach, Schnepfenbach) is an approximately 11 km long, right tributary of the Main in Bavaria. The body of water of the third order still has important cultural significance for the municipality of the same name, Dettelbach in the Kitzingen district, whose main town derives its name from the river.
The Dettelbach rises in the so-called farmer's wood north-west of the Prosselsheim district of Püssensheim in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg. First it runs underground until it comes to the surface north of the village. The canalised Binsachgraben flows into the Dettel while still in town. The Dettelbach flows in a southeasterly direction past Prosselsheim and on to Dettelbach-Neusetz, where it reaches the district of Kitzingen with the Neusetz district. As a result, the Dettelbach crosses the Dettelbach district of Schnepfenbach, and the Schernauer Bach flows into Dettelbach-Brück.Now the Dettelbach is accompanied by several mill buildings that produced the flour for the city of Dettelbach in the past. The stream reaches the historic Dettelbach old town at the level of the bridge gate and divides it into a western and an eastern part. The Dettelbach runs under the late medieval town hall of Dettelbach and is bridged in many places in the densely built-up city. The stream leaves the city at the site of the former Maintor and flows into the Main at river kilometer 294.
