The four-pipe fountain (also known as Steinerner Jörg) is a fountain on the market square in Sommerach in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen. The fountain is the center of the town on the main street. In the 17th century, there was already a fountain on the current site that provided the population with water. It was expanded in 1625 and was much higher than the current facility. The climb up to the tank made it possible to take water. The old fountain formed the middle and end point of the iron water pipe that had been in place since the beginning of the 16th century. In 1701, the fountain was given its current shape. The water tank was lowered and the four lion heads from which the water flows were attached. The figure of Saint George fighting the dragon was also created in 1701. It was an early work by the artist Matthias Sporer, who died in Sommerach in 1732. People call the figure "Steinerner Jörg". (Wikipedia)

The statue was already in dire need of renovation in 1813. The community had the figure removed and placed it in front of the Rimbach Gate in the northwest of the village. It took almost a hundred years before plans for the fountain's top were available again. In 1901, the community of Sommerach commissioned the Würzburg sculptor Arthur Schlegelmünch to make a copy of the figure of Saint George.

420 Reichsmarks were collected in a fundraising campaign for the redesign and the work was inaugurated on July 28, 1901. In the same year, the fountain received a new wooden casing from the carpenter Michael Niedermeyer. Schlegelmünch was again commissioned to create a new fountain column. In 1983, the fountain had to be restored.[4] The fountain has been classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation. The fountain basin is an octagonal structure. On one side, a kind of pillar was created by the water supply from the east. The fountain top is in the center, a round column with four lion heads as reliefs in the basin. Above it rises the figure of Saint George, who thrusts an iron lance into the dragon's jaws. The figure is made of French limestone, the basin is made of stones from Randersacker.[5]
