On the metal fence is the first line of a song "Abide with me, fast falls the eventide" and below that the notes. Some research tells me that "Abide with Me" is a Christian hymn by Scottish Anglican clergyman Henry Francis Lyte. A prayer to God to remain with the speaker throughout his life and death was written by Lyte in 1847 as he was dying of tuberculosis. It is usually sung to the tune "Eventide" by English organist William Henry Monk. You can listen to this on youtube sung by Audrey Assad
